Phil’s 2003 Z 06
I guess I have always been a gear head and had always loved
Corvettes, but they were always to expensive. My first car was a 1952 Ford
flathead V-8...learned a lot from that car. Joined the Marines during
Viet Nam
, while overseas I saved enough money for a 1965
Mustang convertible, fire engine red with a white top and white leather
interior, that was in 1967. My first new car was a 1969 Camaro, 396 big block,
two four barrels, 425hp, very fast and a lot of fun at the drag strip. After the
service it was getting a career started, Marriage, then divorce, and finally
enough money to buy a 1975 Vette, kept it only a short time, as it was not
practical. I was into skydiving and traveled a lot and a van was what I needed
back then.
Another marriage,
then kids started showing up at my house, you know how that goes. My next Vette
was a 1984 bronze coupe I picked up in 1990, great car, won a few trophy's and
kept it several years but fell in love with the C5 and bought a 1998 Nassau Blue
Coupe in 2000, also placed in a few car shows with it.
When the Z06 came
out I knew that was the car I wanted...I waited for the 2003, and bought my
anniversary edition in September 2002. I started upgrading with a twin flow high
performance intake w/ K & N Filters, a Ram air power duct & coupler,
Magnecor wires,
Hurst
shifter, and BF drag radials for the track. My best
times are 12.3 sec @ 117 mph in the 1/4 mile. Have taken home a few trophies’
including a 3rd place at last years show & Go day at
Raceway
Park
. I have also taken a closest to dial in at the
Corvette Challenge.
I joined the
Sports Car Driving Association, to learn high performance driving. I have run at
New Hampshire
speedway and
Lime
Rock
Park
several times.
I have added Russell Stainless Steel brake lines, Carbotech Panther XP8 Brake
pads, and Chrome wheels. Plans include bigger tires and maybe a Mallot upgrade
when the new car warranty runs out. The car is much faster than my ability right
now, but I am getting faster all the time. The Z06 is the best Vette ever! Oh my
daily driver is a 2002 fire engine red Camaro Convertible.
